NEWS

The purpose of The Good Shepherd Project is to break the cycle of poverty, violence and despair that traps children and young people from the shanty towns of Brazil.

Founded in 1993, GSP is a UK registered charity that funds the provision of education, skills training, nutrition and healthcare to children at risk. We work in partnership with two Brazilian registered charitable organisations each situated in the heart of the favela communities that they serve, Projeto Bom Pastor (Belo Horizonte) and Projeto Alcançando Vidas (Rio de Janeiro).

MISSION STATEMENT & AIMS

To work in the poorest areas of Brazil with needy children and their families to transform lives by bringing the love, care and compassion of Jesus into their lives

1. To accomplish quality work with pre-school children to prevent them from being left alone, exploited and becoming street children.
2. To work with the child and the parent/family aiming to prevent the cycle of abuse, and to give them a sense of worth in God's eyes.
3. To transform lives by bringing the love of Jesus into the lives of those touched by the project, by example, deed and word.
4. To get the people of the local community involved in the work of the project.
5. To bring medical care to those who have no opportunity of finances to obtain that service.
6. To work alongside the young people and families by giving them skills to help them obtain work or to assist with their budgeting.
7. To help volunteers see beyond their own sphere, to see the needs of other parts of the world. To help them understand better their part in Christian service in the world.
8. To restore and transform lives by the Power of God in changing the behaviour of the children.
