Projeto Bom Pastor

The Good Shepherd Project partners Projeto Bom Pastor in it's care of and development of children and young people through the work of the Aprisco Centre.

Projeto Bom Pastor also actively serves other sectors of the community in partnership with other organisations:

Projeto Bom Pastor is committed to equipping the community with skills that will aid employment. Its Adult Education programme teaches literacy, English language and computer technology.

Courses are self funding but non-profit making and where possible, funding from partner organisations is sought to subsidise the costs.

The project is grateful to CDI, a Brazilian non governmental organisation, for the loan of computers and a satellite internet connection.

Women in classroom
Further education is rare in the state sector and unaffordable for many privately.
Poorly paid domestic service is the most common type of work available for young girls and so the project runs secretarial courses for 16-18 year olds
Women with computers
The project hosts volunteers from several British organisations who are often involved in supporting the English language lessons
Women round table
Short vocational courses are run to equip local women with practical skills such as needlework and hairdressing. This enables them to earn a living.
Hair-dressing lessons
In partnership with CONEXAO, a youth employment initiative, Projeto Bom Pastor undertakes to connect young people who have undergone IT training, with prospective employers
