Projeto Bom Pastor The Good Shepherd Project partners Projeto Bom Pastor in it's care of and development of children and young people through the work of the Aprisco Centre. Projeto Bom Pastor also actively serves other sectors of the community in partnership with other organisations: |
Building on steep hillsides and in danger from landslides, desperate people put up their shanty homes illegally on 'seized' land from salvaged materials. None have sanitation and the few that have power are from unauthorized and dangerous 'hook-ups' to electricity cables. Sickness and disease are commonplace due to rat and insect infestation from the open sewers that surround these homes. Projeto Bom Pastor seeks to support the families in the neighbourhood of the Aprisco centre. By making community visits, it offers practical, emotional and spiritual assistance either directly or by helping families to access resources that are available to them. |
|
| The project's community workers assist with medical visits and associated transport costs. They also support families (who are often illiterate or poorly educated), with official matters such as child registration. They facilitate conciliation in relationship issues and liaise with the parents of Safe House children and social workers |

In partnership with The Foundation for Workers of the BDMG bank, Projeto Bom Pastor distributes fortified flour to needy families and advises on nutrition, health and food hygiene. The project is exploring the
feasibility of a poultry rearing programme whereby families will be trained
in animal husbandry and given chicks to rear for egg production to feed
their families. |
