| Volunteers play
an important role in the running of both Projeto Bom Pastor
and Projeto Alcançando Vidas.
The directors of both projects seek to forge strong links with the communities that they serve and have been successful in enlisting support from a variety of volunteers from the medical and legal professions. Volunteers from the local churches
are actively engaged in fundraising, extra curricular activities and community
outreach projects. |

The projects welcome volunteers from overseas charitable organisations who come as individuals or in teams for short term missions either to carry out specific tasks such as decorating & building or to support staff in the daily running of the projects' work. |

| Volunteers placed
through GAP International, usually in pairs, spend up to six months at our
projects, living locally and fully integrating in the community.
They bring a variety of skills
and talents which leaders try to incorporate into the programmes including
teaching of the English language which is taught to children and adults
alike. |

Individual churches also organise
extended working holidays, (usually of around a month) for volunteer teams
to support project staff.
Teams get involved in every aspect of the work. Teachers enjoy having additional
support in the classrooms and the children enjoy the extra attention that
they receive from their overseas 'uncles' & 'aunties'. |
