Danish youngster Asmat
El Ouargui joined Norwich on trial in July 2004 and played for
City's Under-19s in the 4-0 defeat of Northampton during that
period. Asmat scored one of City's goals suggesting that former
Norwich defender Steen Nedergaard
did well to suggest them for a trial at Carrow Road. He
also played in the friendly against Rushden & Diamonds. Per
was then with Danish side Hvidovre.
Norwich Academy Director Ricky Martin announced on 4th December
that he had completed the signing of Asmat. After some weeks of
discussions with the player and his club, Hvidovre, Asmat has put
pen to paper on an 18-month scholarship. "It has taken some
while to get Asmat here and we had hoped that we could also sign
fellow Dane Per Weihrauch at the same time. We came mighty close
to completing the double, but in the end with Per we had to give
second best to Dutch giants Ajax. Asmat did well when he was here
in pre-season, he has great pace, and his athletic build should
see him adapt to the English game without too many problems",
said Ricky
Norwich announced on 24th November 2006 that they would not be offering
Asmat a professional contract when his scholarship expires at the
end of the month.
