Defender George Francomb
joined Norwich City's academy as a full-time scholar in the summer
of 2008. He comes from Hornchurch and has played junior
football in Essex as well as spending time at Tottenham
Francomb made his Norwich debut in the 1-0 Johnstone's Paints
Trophy clash at Gillingham on 6th October 2009, starting at right-back.
He then retained his place for the 1-0 league win at Carlisle
on 10th October 2009 and the following game against Swindon in
which he was injured.
George was offered his first professional contract with the Canaries
at the end of March 2010 , and signed it on 1st July 2010
He has only played once for the first team, on August 24th 2010
in the 3-1 defeat at Blackburn Rovers in the second round of the
Carling Cup.
George was loaned to League Two side Barnet on 7th October 2010
for a month. This was extended until early December. Returning
to Norwich in January 2010, he had made 15 appearances for the
Underhill side. Barnet manager Paul Fairclough acknowledged: Wed
have him tomorrow if he was going to be allowed to come out on
loan again. From my perspective, having just come in, he is certainly
the type of player I like because hes a passing full-back,
he wants to play, wants to get the ball down, wants to join in
with the play, and Ive enjoyed him being here. I would have
liked the opportunity to work a little bit longer with him, but
I do understand why he has been brought back and wed just
like to thank Paul Lambert and the Norwich staff for allowing
him to come out. It was very good of them and hes been a
real ambassador for the club.
On 12th January 2012, Francomb joined Scottish side Hibs on loan
until the end of the 2011/12 season to get some regular first
team football at Easter Road to continue his development. Teammates
include former youth team colleague David
Stephens.
