Biography

German centre-back Marcel Franke joined Norwich on 14th July 2017 from German side Greuther Furth for an undisclosed fee. He signed a three year contract with Norwich.

Franke was born in Dresden and began his career in Dynamo Dresden's youth set-up. he was promoted to the first team in 2010 and made his debut in March 2011 against SV Wehen Wiesbaden. In 2013, he transferred to Hallescher. He had made 3 appearances for Dynamo.

After two years and 68 appearances for Hallescher, he moved to Greuther Furth where he would make 53 appearances.

Franke made his Norwich debut in the 1-1 draw away to Fulham on the opening day of the 2017/18 season (5th August 2017). After making just seven appearances for City, and only one brief one as substitute following the 4-0 defeat to Millwall at the end of August, Franke was reported to be returning to Germany in the January 2018 transfer window with Union Berlin linked. However German tabloid Bild reported on 19th December that he would be joining Dynamo Dresden on loan, a move that the Canaries confirmed. Manager Daniel Farke said “Marcel struggled a bit to adapt to the Championship at the start of the season, and that’s why we changed things after the Millwall result . He has improved very much in recent weeks in training, but we’ve played a lot with Timm Klose, Grant Hanley and Christoph Zimmermann in the centre-back positions and they are all in good form and we’ve been pretty solid, including a club record of consecutive clean sheets. We think it would be good for Marcel to be playing games for his confidence, and to get back into his rhythm at a high level and to come back in good shape in June.”

On 27th June 2018, he returned to Germany joining SV Darmstadt 98 on a season long loan. He made 27 appearances during 2018/19.

On 26th June 2019, he joined Bundesliga II side Hannover for an undisclosed fee on a three year contract.

He moved to Karlsruher in May 2022.
