Biography

After weeks of speculation and negotiation, Ipswich Town's young midfielder Liam Gibbs signed for Norwich on 23rd July 2021. The East Anglian rivals have agreed an undisclosed fee for the 18-year-old, who has signed a four year contract and will initially link up with the Canaries' development set-up.

The central midfielder had been at Ipswich since the age of eight but opted to cut his ties with the Blues amid reported interest this summer from a number of Premier League teams, including Manchester United and Aston Villa.

Gibbs made four senior appearances for Ipswich on 12th November 2019 in a 1-0 away defeat to Colchester in the EFL Trophy. He signed his first professional deal with Ipswich in December 2019. His league debut came against Charlton on 28th November 2020. He caught the eye as part of an under-18 Ipswich side which reached the FA Youth Cup semi-finals in 2020/21 before losing to Liverpool.

He was included on the bench for Norwich for the FA Cup game against Charlton at the beginning of January 2022.

After an impressive pre-season he made his Norwich first-team debut on the opening day of the 2022/23 season coming on as substitute in the 72nd minute for Josh Sargent. He made his full debut in the Carabao Cup clash at home to Birmingham on 9th August 2022. He scored his first Norwich goal on 7th April 2023 in the 2-0 Championship win at Blackburn. He finished the season with 37 appearances and one goal and was named Young Player of the Season.

It was reported in February 2024 that Norwich had rejected a move from Sheffield Wednesday to take Gibbs on loan. The versatile 21-year-old had found chances hard to come by this season after breaking through last campaign, featuring only 13 times in the league. However, despite the limited action, the club blocked a move with David Wagner unwilling to sanction a switch.
