Biography

On 7th June 2022 Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden joined Norwich City on a season long loan for the 2022-23 season, The Canaries will then have an obligation to make the deal permanent depending on "performance-related criteria" during the next campaign.

Hayden began his playing career at Southend United but switched to Arsenal's academy at the age of 13.

He made his first team debut in September 2013 in the League Cup against West Brom. The following September he made his second Gunners appearance, again in the League Cup, this time against Southampton. They were his only appearances for Arsenal.

On 31st July 2015 he joined Hull City on a season long loan, making 24 appearances and scoring once, as the Tigers won promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

He signed for Newcastle on a five year contract on 1st July 2016 and went on to make 171 appearances prior to his loan to Norwich, scoring seven goals. This included winning the Championship title in 2016/17.

Born in England to an English father and Jamaican mother, he is eligible to represent both national teams. He has been capped by England at the under-16, under-17, under-18, under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels but contacted the Jamaican national team in March 2021 to express interest in playing for them.

Injuries delayed his Norwich debut until 15th October 2022 in a 2-1 defeat at Watford, coming on as a half-time substitute. He made his full debut in the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United on 22nd October 2022. He finished the season with 14 appearances for City as a second injury ruled him out from January to April.

It was widely reported on 27th May 2023 that Hayden had no future at Newcastle despite having three years remaining on his contract. “I had those conversations with those players last year, where they trained separately from the group,” said the Magpies boss Eddie Howe. “That was only so I could control the numbers that I was working with and maintain the focus of the players that were going to be part of our season. I don’t anticipate that changing to be honest. Those lads have done very well, and they’ve been great lads and servants to the football club over many seasons. We certainly respect them, but sometimes you have to make a clear break and focus on the players that are going to be part of our season next year.”

At the end of August 2023 it looked as if Hayden would be joining Luton on loan, even heading to Bedfordshire to undertake a medical. Unfortunately they couldn't agree a deal and the move collapsed on 29th August 2023.

On 5th September 2023 he joined Belgium top flight club Standard Liege on a season long loan.

Hayden was recalled from his loan in January 2024 and was linked with moves to Birmingham, Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn. In the end he joined Queens Park Rangers on loan on 1st February 2024 for the remainder of the season. Hayden added: "It is obvious to see the position the club are in at the moment but it is a challenge that I feel I can add some value to, on and off the pitch - be an experienced player and be a leader to try and help the club stay in the league." He made his QPR debut on 3rd February 2024 coming on as substitute in the 2-1 win at Blackburn.
