On 25th April 2023 it was reported that Norwich's first team analyst Josh Appleyard had joined Newcastle United as a positional analyst who will provide video and occassional live game analysis focussing on specific positions. This is part of a revamp of Newcastle's scouting and recruitment departments led by Dan Ashworth.

Appleyard joined Norwich in January 2022 after six seasons at Hull City.He spent eight months as a first team analyst before at the start of the 2022/23 season stepping up to become a senior first team performance analyst.
